2018 Tiguan Review: Supersized for it’s second-generation
April 11 2019, Cowell Volkswagen
Volkswagen has updated the Tiguan you know and love to make it more practical for the modern driver. The second-generation Tiguan, expected in stores late this summer, is bigger, tougher and more capable than ever before. This model is elegantly refined and completely redesigned. Compared to the model it is replacing, the 2018 Tiguan has been supersized.
The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan is now more versatile with the long-wheelbase. Compared to the outgoing model, it is 271 mm longer overall, has a 111 mm longer wheelbase and has 57 percent more cargo capacity. On top of that, there is a sliding second row that moves up to seven inches forward or back and optional third-row seats. With the third row folded, there’s a good amount of cargo space to fit all your needs. Two-row models have a massive underfloor storage space. The new Tiguan gives you space and flexibility for any adventure you can throw at it.
Volkswagen will keep the Tiguan’s fun-to-drive personality due in part to the highly praised MQB platform (based on the same platform as the latest Golf). The Toronto International Auto Show gave us a glimpse of the 2018 Tiguan, including the specs showing the SUV would be powered by an updated version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 184 horsepower, 221 lb-ft through an 8-speed automatic transmission. 4MOTION all-wheel drive is also equipped, with four driving modes to choose from.
Raising the bar yet again, the Tiguan comes available with loads of cutting edge technology inside and out, including App-Connect, Fender Premium Audio, blind spot detection, land assist and VW Digital Cockpit, the new Tiguan is as bold and sophisticated on the inside as it is on the outside.
