Decoding the Jargon: Car Slang Explained
When you step into Cowell Auto Group, whether for service or sales, it’s easy to be blown away with the amount of information you can acquire. We aim to make the customer’s car ownership experience seamless and easy. But that being said, many of us use car slang so often it becomes ingrained in our everyday language and we have to remind ourselves to take a step back and ensure we decode the jargon.
In this installment of Car Slang Explained we learn the meaning of Decs
Decs is the term we use when we talk about “declarations”.
Declarations are important facts about the vehicle which helps customers learn the history of their vehicle. Information provided in decs include
- What was the prior use of the vehicle – if the vehicle
was previously used as a taxi, emergency vehicle, etc.
- What claims over $2000 have been made on the vehicle
- If the motor vehicle has been used as a lease or rental vehicle
- Whether a used motor vehicle has been previously registered in another province or country
- If the odometer of the vehicle accurately records the true distance traveled by the vehicle.
The motor dealer must also declare that the motor vehicle meets the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Act or if it is not suitable for transportation, must state that in all written representations about that vehicle.
Mark Hansford, Financial Services Manager at Cowell Volkswagen explains “When we buy and sell cars, we need to know the history as it can affect the value of the cars. If there are declarations, they must be shown on bill of sale. At
all three stores in Cowell Auto Group, we provide a full CarProof report at no charge. It shows damage history, where the car has been registered, if there is any money owing on the car, and gives potential buyers a much better picture of the car’s history.“
Every industry has its share of jargon, and the automotive industry is no exception. As you can see, our Sales team is committed to making your experience with Cowell Auto Group comfortable and provide real value. We’ll take the time to explain what is important to you.
